Armchair Angler has been serving the angling community since 1988 and is owned by Steve and Susan Starrantino. It has provided the angling collector a fine selection of old, rare and out-of-print angling books as well as tackle catalogs, and other angling paper ephemera for over 15 years.
Due to the large depth of information at its’ disposal the company has assisted many author’s in their research of their particular projects.
Recently the company has broadened the scope of offerings to include and not limited to: antique flies, flies tied by noted tiers, artwork, pins, medals and a large array of items not necessarily offered in other catalogs but are considered desirable collectibles just as well.
In June 2004 the company published the first of it’s kind email catalog that included pictures of each and every item listed. Steve Starrantino’s background is in computer programming. For many years the company published a bi-annual catalog and sent it out to their clients all over the world. Unfortunately, no matter how fair they tried to mail it out to them, not everyone had an equal opportunity to purchase the item of their choice. Another dilemma Steve felt was lacking in the industry was the lack of pictures illustrating the items for sale.
With his programming knowledge and coupled as being an experienced antiquarian book dealer, he spent two years designing a program that would send a catalog in an email format with links to pictures for every item offered so the pictures are not downloaded onto the clients computer which would be prohibitive.
Armchair Angler plans on publishing six catalogs a year with approximately
250 items for the angling collector.
